Oh well, that's it - the line has to be empty. So the params.txt is like
-- begin --
\Storage Card\linux-2.6.18-7xx-zimage
root=/dev/hda2
-- end --
otherwise it does not find rootfs (kernel panic).

I think so.. at least in my old config I had FIR device section with
CONFIG_SA1100_FIR=m (sa1100_ir.ko) and CONFIG_IRCOMM=m irtty + ircomm
You are right, loadkeys does something - it completely messes up the
keyboard layout when loading the keymap I use for 2.4.x. Do you have
anything else to feed the loadkeys with?
Is following kind off patch inlcluded in your patch set?
http://acid.ch.pw.edu.pl/%7Esq5bpf/mylinux/j720/files/kernel/j720_keyboard.patch
or does it break the layout of non ABB keyboards?

Beside that, I forget to mention obvious "not working" APM and power
button does nothing with 2.6...
BTW: In
http://jlime.com/downloads/development/kernel/arm/2.6.18/defconf_jlime
I see CONFIG_APM=m but there is no module for apm in /lib/modules?!
