I know, third message on this subject tonight, but I neglected to make
my main point:

Anyone with any clever ideas for hardware expansion would find the
plastic for the CF sleeve *very* useful. The sleeve part of it seems
to be completely generic. I wouldn't be surprised to find that it is
also used in the PCMCIA sleeve. Basically, all you need to do is
devise the electronics for the expansion connector, and make a PC
board matching the one currently in the CF sleeve. Any I/O you needed
could be on the PC board sticking out of the CF hole.

The only business question here is whether Compaq would sell you empty
plastic. One certainly hopes so.

Unfortunately, I've forgotten all the electronics I used to know,
otherwise I'd be looking at various Harris chips: their PRISM 802.11
wireless, and their GPS receiver.
