Sorry to say it, but Intimate is pretty much dead. There's still a few
people lurking around on the IRC channel, mostly for historical
reasons.. and the site is still up on handhelds.org... but there hasn't
been any active development going on for over 12 months now.

The problem for those without cf/sd/etc cards was always finding
sufficient space to cram debian into. The base image was over 65MB, and
a workable system soon grew to 300MB. Once you start trying to cut away
extra bits to gain space, you get to something like familiar.

The dependancy on familiar was removed a couple of years ago..but read
on...

The way intimate currently works and installs, it's pure-debian plus
some extra .deb packages on the hh.org repositary.

I won't argue that the install's not the most streamlined process
possible, but I think you might have been misled by reading the 'Install
instructions' document that you see when you click the 'Installation'
link on the lefthand edge of the website.

The problem here is that none of the people who were hacking on intimate
liked updating HTML pages... so the install instrcutions link on the
left still points to install.html instead of install-howto. I would fix
that right now, but I've long-since forgotten my password to log-in to
the server.

The new install docs that Chris wrote were actually the last bit of news
posted onto the news page and can be found at
http://intimate.handhelds.org/docs/install-howto/.

There's actually another small update after the last news pages since I
created a h3800 compatible set of install images with a 'dialog' based
ncurses interface which allows installation without a serial console by
using on-screen keyboard and menus :) You can find those install images
at http://intimate.handhelds.org/h3800/

There's no reliance on anything but the CRL bootloader and a CF card.

Hope that helps.. and sorry for being so slack.. If you want interactive
help, hang around on the IRC channel for 24 hours or so saying 'Tangent'
a lot :)

Cheers,

Jim/Tangent
