That is excellent news. I have been able to install
Debian to a card using the pivot-root method, and it
seems like the booting it is really the only major
obstacle left.

Interesting. So any further development along that
line would require a fork in the bootloader
development, one for familiar, and another for
intimate. (I imagine one could make room by removing
jffs2 and vfat support, since neither is strictly
necessary if you're just booting an ext2 filesystem
with WinCE still in the flash.)

However, given what you just said about LAB, I think
that would be a short-term (and short-lived) solution.
