I'm not trying to critisize the good work that the CRL
group has done on the bootloader so far, but why
doesn't the bootloader support booting from a native
linux partition? Speaking purely as a user, not a
developer, I find that _very_ surprising. I can, like
you suggest, mount a vfat partition on /boot once I
pivot-root to it, but vfat doesn't support symbolic
links, and there _are_ links in familiar's /boot
directory. It seems like this makes the booting from a
hard disk unnecessarily complicated.
On a related issue, does the bootloader handle
filenames longer than 8.3 format yet?
I'll try to see about adding ext3 support to the
bootloader.
