Hi,
I had already given the new installer a try about a year ago,
but at that time 38xx support was not properly working. Now I
came back to the project and tried again .. with improved results.
Some remarks on what is tricky/might be improved/causes problems:
- trying to install with an inserted MMC memory card causes problems
because it screws up the partitions the intimate-installer expects
- setting up usb networking requires quite some fiddling. A standard
shell script or so that could easily be started/controlled via the
shell that pops up during install would be very nice
- after the first run (eg intimate-installer, doing everything,
rebooting)
there was no error, and the machine reboots nicely into X, but without
any window manager. Matchbox is installed but does not startup.
Although matchbox is installed I can also not make it start manually.
Sadly .. I switched back to blackbox.
- I needed to install the following (IMHO more or less
essential) packages
by hand, maybe that should be included in the standard install process ?
xbase-clients-ipaq, xstroke
- Where to get the xkeyboard from ? I have
installed xkbd package, but trying
to start it, it segfaults.
- there is a problem with mmenu:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mmenu:
mmenu depends on libc6 (>= 2.2.5-13); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.2.5-11.5.
- a general question about x, how can one
kill an application that takes
all the screen (eg help->xman and man page) ?? I did only manage via the
serial console, which can be a bit inconvenient at times.
- how can one make a keyboard
(stowaway or flexis) work with intimate ?
I get an error message when I do the "cat /dev/microkbd/foldable &" step:
cat: /dev/microkbd/foldable: Device or resource busy
Note that the keyboard is working fine with familiar+opie and I do not have
this error message following exactly the same procedure ! Also, with familiar
to get the keyboard to work proberly, I need to suspend/resume before
plugging it in. Suspend/resume does not work under intimate :( (see below)
- how to shutdown /
turn the power off / suspend properly ?
suspend/resume (-> power button) does not work
poweroff does leave a white screen
FYI: I have a 3850 ipaq model with a 5 GB Toshiba PCMCIA drive.
Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions on fixing the above problems,
Best wishes,
Marc Baaden
