Unfortunately I have to do this with a W2K host at work as no inet at home.
You will be please to hear I have managed to get it going at long last using
the WinXP Internet Connection Sharing method and the Bahia drive but once it
finally went to boot I was getting FS errors on the CF partitions?
Have not re-fdisked etc should be clean, going to try again wish me luck.
Thanks for all you help.
Regards
Thomas

The way I did it, IIRC, is the following:
1. In minicom (on the serial terminal), make sure USB networking is
working (using modprobe, ifconfig, etc.)
2. Still on the serial console, set http_proxy.
3. Still on the serial console, run intimate-install. As networking
is set up to happen over USB, the packages will be downloaded over
USB from the proxy.
