I have done that. I just did

export http_proxy=http://ip.addr.of.host:3128

after setting up usb networking and before running the installation
script.

I think I did this from the serial console, as typing things on the
virtual keyboard is very slow. Anywhere should work, though, as long
as you start the installation script from the same shell so that it
sees the variable.
