familiar install gets me *further* from a working intimate

Hi all.

2.20.4 bootloader was able to boot intimate from vfat
(pcmcia sleeve), kernel and init, to the point of
complaining about flash not being jffs2, to wit:

... and there it hung, display and drive still active.
Not surprising that flash was not a jffs2, since it still
had Wince in it.

I installed familiar 0.7.1 over Wince at that point, and now
intimate won't boot at all, not even a penguin :(
Seems that installing familiar destroyed the ability of my
ipaq to run intimate. The details:

...and at this point the screen goes blank and the drive
audibly powers down.

Device: IPAQ 3760 (I also own a 3765) with single-pcmcia
sleeve and 5GB toshiba hard drive, serial cradle, usb.

Any advice?
