Install issues

Ok, I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, want intimate with KDE, I bought an iPAQ
3765, serial cradle, 1GB microdrive, cf Ethernet, dual cf and a pcmcia
sleeve, etc.
I tried for a week to get familiar installed and finally was able to
install it but now I can't get intimate installed. It all seems to be
rooted with the microdrive. I went through the install up to fdisk and
found that I can't partition hda1 beyond about 980mb and then I try to
make a swap of 30mb (since the directions say it needs to be less that
32mb) and all seems ok, but when trying to make reiserfs and swap it
gives me errors accessing the drive and finally when trying to mount the
drive it errors and kills the install process. I know I am supposed to
insert the card initially but not mount it (which I do) but it looks as
though it auto mounts not sure though (I'm a bit of a newbie, but it
starts a whole bunch of modules and such). I try unmount and it says
permission denied (yes, of course I'm logged in as root with rootme). I
can't even get through the setup.
HELP! I don't want to have spent all this time money and end up with
nothing.
