A few questions (logins, ssh, sound etc)

Hi all,

After a very quiet period (delving into wireless networking....:)) on the
Intimate front, I finally got around to reinstalling Intimate onto one of my
3600s. I used an rsync'd copy of the intimate-release as my base rather than
the tarball from the site or the installer and have come across the
following problems that I was wondering whether anyone can help me with:

1. Sound.
isoundd gives 'cannot find device' messages at boot time and won't play
ball. I have noticed that although the rest of the devices in /dev are devfs
based (am i right here?), there is a permanent /dev/dsp device (ie. appears
when i examine the drive without intimate booted). Is this likely to be the
problem?

2. SSH/Passwords
This, I think, is just a case of me not knowing where to start, but when
trying to login either via a getty with minicom, ssh over ethernet, or is I
just try to su to root from a user I have created, I get either an
'initgroup' error or 'can't set gid' message which means that my sole means
of interaction is either touchscreen or by plugging the (unbooted) drive
into another computer and messing with it there - hardly ideal! Can anyone
give me a pointer as to what the problem could be here?

Other than that, it looks great (I love the X splash screen! hehehe) and
works great - many thanks!

Regards,

Ben
