while I had a simmilar problem with intimate on my 20GB IBM DTLA or
simmilar (a regular 3.5" HDD) with PCMCIA IDE controller this is not (yet?)
yours.

My PCMCIA controller was only detected if I removed and resinserted the
PCMCIA controller after cardservices was started.

You must rename your existing linuxrc to e.g. linuxrc.familiar and than
crete a link from linuxrc.intimate to linuxrc

# mv linuxrc linuxrc.familiar
# ln -s linuxrc.intimate linuxrc
