Yes, but a USB slave can both read and write on the wire. Assuming
that we are controlling both the horizontal and the vertical here, what
stops two slaves from talking to each other? What stops the iPAQ from
pretending to be a master? Is there some bit of hardware that only
the master has?

I should probably just go wade through the 700 pages of the USB spec
to answer my questions. If nobody has been here before me, I guess
that's what I'll have to do. Oh, woe is me! :-)
