freeze after suspend

I'm finding that my intimate installation
is freezing after a suspend either with a
Toshiba 2GB PC card drive or a microdrive.

The setup is familiar v0.5 + kernel 2.4.16 + ion
+ intimate on PC card or microdrive.

Pressing the button after a suspend will bring
back the screen, but it's not taking any input
from xstroke or gtk-menu.

The iPAQ doesn't freeze if I do a _very_ brief suspend,
but otherwise reliably locks up.

Any way to avoid this?
