I'm running Familiar without Intimate, but I've had no problems with
my udrive.

That's the tradeoff right there. It all comes down to how often
and for how long you'll access your drive, and how important it is to
have the extra money or data.

With the CPU slowed down to 148MHz, I was able to listen to MP3s from
my 1GB microdrive for six hours before my battery (with PCMCIA sleeve)
gave out. The drive only spins up at the start of each song though,
(to buffer the whole file into RAM), so I don't know how much of a
difference a hungrier drive would have made.

Of course, the 1GB drive stores a lot more than six hours of music,
but it's nice to have some choices, and it's easier to charge the
batteries than to select and copy a new batch of music.

I've got the 340MB Microdrive and agree that it is a pretty sweet bit of
tech. However the new Toshiba PCMCIA drives (I've got the 2GB one) cost
me half the price of the 1GB microdrive (this is in Australia).

Both work very well, it depends on what you want it for. If you need a
CF for other things (camera etc), then the MD may be worth the extra.
However if you're going to run intimate on it, I'd go for the PCMCIA
drive from Tosh (or others) as it will be a dedicated device.

I have installed the Intimate on my IPAQ, but when it boots it displays on the
LCD screen:
Executing /sbin/init...
Setting unmounting /boot...
Setting up device nodes...
It then stalls.
I can connect with minicom.
I can also start a ppp session, but if I try a rlogin I get connection refused.
There is no SSH modules in the installation.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Leo
