Answered my question: The clock was not set and so the shadow file (last
password change) was always 0.

On to the next gotcha.....

Adam,

I just had the same problem. Edit you /etc/securetty file and add
your console to this. ttySA0.

Now I am being forced to change the root password every time I log
in. If anyone knows where this is being set please save me some time.

Subject: [Intimate] login problem

This may seem like a very easy question, but...

Intimate will not allow me to login as root, it keeps telling me the
password is
invalid. I know the password is rootme, Iv'e even tried deleting the
password
entry in /etc/shadow and /etc/passwd. I also tried changing the password of
root in X-windows by using the passwd command; that didn't seem to help
either.
I just cant get it to login. I can easily create other accounts and log in,
but
that takes away super user rights. Any suggestions?
