pppd complains about /dev/tts_0

Hi,

after finishing the intimate install and rebooting for the first
time, my pppd (when started a system start) now complains about:

Failed to open /dev/tts_0: no such file or directory

Yes, that's an underscore. I grepped the whole /etc with subdirectories,
tts_0 is nowhere to be found. When I log in with minicom as root, pppd
starts just fine (prints its junk on the screen). Logging in as user ppp
exits throws me back to the login screen.

Has anybody seen this before?
