Phillip -
I saw your earlier tail of woe: aren't little brothers a pain in the
neck? (I know, I am one ;-) While I'd like to say 'learn Linux', we
don't like to take converts under the sword, as it were. There _is_
a rather complex way to get an image back, using the ROM Update available
from Compaq. I'm hesitant to suggest it, though, since it requires a
Unix host to manipulate the files on. Perhaps you can point your little
brother at it, and make him do it.

On second reading, I see that the original instructions _are_ for doing
it from under Windows, using a Hex editor to recover the image, then one
big xmodem transfer. Ouch. You might find someone on IRC willing to help
'handhold' you through this, if you do IRC.
No guarantees, of course. As a last resort, you might talk to the CRL
Compaq people: they do a 'de-bricking' service for people working on Linux
on the Ipaq, and might help, to keep you from killing your brother. They
read these lists, as well, so might respond in private.
