             Alternatively, you can also discard the current wireless.opts
and replace it with a file looking like this :
----------- wireless.opts ---------------------
case "$ADDRESS" in
*,*,*,*)
    ESSID="MY_ESSID"
    MODE="Managed"

esac

Mine is esentially the same except "MY_ESSID" is set to "THE NAME OF MY

Cool then... It defaults to something with asterisks. :)

Nathan,

      This is just asterisked out because I did not want to list my
Companies ESSID for the point I am trying to use.
same for the Keys.
The only part where I use wildcards is in the initial line Where it is
valid to use *,*,*,*) for the scheme.
This is valid for that portion from what I understand.

Russell is saying that "****" is not a wildcard, if I read him properly.

Russell,

      Sorry to be a bother but I'm trying to track down where my problem
is, I can't seem
to find where /etc/pcmcia/wireless is called can you let me know. Just
trying to backtrack to
find out why my wireless.opts file is not apparently being applied/read.

Thanks,

The way all this stuff works is /etc/pcmcia/wireless reads
.../wireless.opts, and runs the appropriate program to set the
appropriate value. So, ESSID="****" runs "iwconfig wlan0 essid
"****". You should be able to run "iwconfig wlan0 key "whatever" and
have it work identically to editing wireless.opts.
