Handhelds Wiki Todo List

These are the tasks that need to be completed on the wiki. Remove tasks from here when completed.

Specific tasks

High priority

• delete pages created by MarkSun (Marketplace, aaa) update WIKI to a more spam-proof version

• Copy pages over from the old wiki, making cleanups where appropriate. - In progress, see WikiMovingNotes. Currently stalled as old ZWiki is unavailable.

• Integrate WindowsXpUsbNetworkHowTo and WindowsIpaqRoutingHowto, remove cruft, and make a clear statement on what works and what doesn't

• Move Familiar install instructions into the wiki - in progress, see InstallFamiliar

• Add instructions for reflashing main image

• Needs to cover installation for all devices supported by Familiar, or at least have links to other instructions for them

• Split into multiple pages (use subpages (/)?)

• Add a page about what to do after Familiar installation - in progress, see FamiliarStartGuide

Medium priority

• Add some info on kernel status to the wiki (perhaps on FamiliarFaq). eg. why does hh.org have its own kernel, what is the current status of 2.6 on h3600 / h3900, etc. Link to relevant bugzilla entries.

• Add a page describing Familiar's file system layout - what's in RAM/Flash, useful directories/files, etc. - started, see FamiliarFileSystem

• Make a HandheldsFaq covering questions about handhelds.org services, aims, etc. OR add this information to AboutHandheldsOrg instead. Perhaps some history would be nice as well (mention CRL, HP/Compaq, new server hosting, etc.)

• Create a page describing style guidelines for the handhelds wiki. See HandheldsWikiStyle

• Come up with a standard, clearly visible way of marking pages that are known to be out of date, and then go through the wiki marking outdated pages in this way

• Consolidate all 'getting 2.6 booted' cruft in to a central topic, not scattered over the individual port (eg. HpIpaqH4100Howto, HpIpaqH2200ssh)

• PPPhowto needs more work. There's still some old stuff on there. Also make it clear that you can set up a file in /etc/ppp/peers/ or just use a single pppd command.

• BluetoothHowto needs updating for Familiar 0.8. - Done, but it needs some more howto's as users seem to ignore the Bluez docs

• Create a page describing the types of network connections available with Familiar and links to howto pages for each of them - see NetworkingConnections, needs tidying up

• JavaOnHandhelds is a mess. Someone who knows the situation needs to sort through all of this, and possibly separate out some of the detail into separate pages. In fact most of the pages linked from there are pretty stale and messy.

• UserDocuments needs lots of tidying up

• Remove UsbNetHotplug and any other old usbnet documentation

• KernelDocumentation all needs updating - mostly finished but could use some polish in KernelInstallation - ErikHovland

• Document bootldr fully (some stuff on BootLoader, and a few bits on RestoringPocketPc)

Low priority

• Go through IpaqHardwareCompatibility and remove instructions on making changes to /etc/pcmcia/* that have already been applied in Familiar 0.8 (leave the entry though so that people know its support status)

• Investigate how to build a restorable WinCE image from HP-supplied files (see RestoringPocketPcOnH39xx) and add some instructions to RestoringPocketPc

• Merge HowToMountExtraPartition and ExtraMb. We also need to describe restoring the 16MB asset image somewhere for those who use this and then decide to go back to PocketPC.

• OldBluetoothDoc - move anything that's still valuable (unlikely) into BluetoothHowto and then delete OldBluetoothDoc

• AboutOpenHandhelds needs updating/adding to (add some information about CRL, who works there from the team, what they do there etc., maybe some info about handhelds.org servers)

• FrontPage needs a better layout, like the old wiki front page.

• Sort out GPRS/IrDA topics (make separate pages, consolidate information, reformat/update etc.)

• Complete handhelds pages in HandheldsDevices (use NewFAQ/HardwareQuestions/DeviceTemplate as a template)

• DeveloperDocuments is a little sparse - more documentation needed

• Someone nuked the GPS page in the old wiki, so there wasn't anything to copy over. General GPS stuff is now there but we need to list more working GPS devices

General tasks

• Absorb as much of the hh.org html pages into the wiki as possible

• Look through WantedPages and create any necessary pages / remove links if not required

• Search for "dead link" to find identified dead links and try to track them down.

• Go over the entire wiki looking for information that is no longer relevant. See the ObsoletePages page.

• Add your working hardware to IpaqHardwareCompatibility if it's not already in there

• And of course, add/improve information in your area of interest/expertise

Wiki cleanup efforts

• PortingProjectFrontpageTemplate - This page is for developing a suitable unified frontpage template for all hh porting efforts

Ideas

• Why not add kind of voting tool to wiki features ?

• Why not wipe static hh.org pages that are not used ? For example 1940 page as it is mostly outdated and all the real information is in Wiki

• Prohibit creation and update of Personal wiki pages in order to stimulate people to move their blogs to Planet

• Planet only aggregates. Perhaps better to add syndication feature to enable wiki blogging feature

• If only http://wiki.openzaurus.org was as good as this wiki.
