If the sound of the wind humming in the rigging, the taste of salt air,
and maybe a bit of nostalgia for the ships of yore appeal to you, there
are still opportunities for you to spend a few days "before the mast."
And unless you want to, you won't actually have to scrub the decks,
polish the brass, or climb that rigging. The range of options for sailing
cruises is broad, from the large "tall ships," which carry more than 100
passengers (such as Windstar, with 148 passengers, and a staff of
90), to mid-size vessels with a few dozen passengers to smaller vessels.
I guess you could even include a one-hour rental of a sailboard,
but we won't stretch it that far.
