once you have running Linux with reasonable recent kernel (2.6.11 with
knoppix 3.x will suffice, 5.x knoppixes also good, other distros will
probably be also good) then you can just use kernel support for battery,
which contains some good battery information.

Kernel support provides proper file within 'proc' filesystem:

svad ~ # cat /proc/acpi/battery/CMB0/info
present: yes
design capacity: 3600 mWh
last full capacity: 1693 mWh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 11100 mV
design capacity warning: 160 mWh
design capacity low: 16 mWh
capacity granularity 1: 100 mWh
capacity granularity 2: 100 mWh
model number: BAT1
serial number: 1234
battery type: LION
OEM info: COMPAQ

Damn... pretty bad... "last full" is too low
However, my new fresh battery is much better :)

thats easy - http://tuxmobil.org/compaq.html contains link for example to
http://staff.xiaoka.com/smoku/stuff/TC1000/gentoo-on-tc1000.html

But generally, when you compile kernel and turn on battery support, all
is just fine

:)
