I ran into all of those fun little issues when trying to install linux
on the TC1000. What I ended up having to do was to have two sets of
installation media and two USB external CD drives (one was Lite-On and
the other Iomega). The reason was that after the initial boot on the
first drive, the USB driver loading caused the drive to no longer be
recognized. I then plugged the second drive in with the duplicate copy
of the media and things proceeded perfectly. This worked with both
SuSE 9.1 and Mandrake 10.1.

One quick tip. Since the microphone jack is close to the speakers (and
the default volume on the speakers will be set at maximum) plug a set
of headphones into the microphone jack while installing. That is
correct. headphones into the microphone jack. Otherwise you will have
such severe feedback that you will want to claw your face off. Adjust
the input and output volumes accordingly once the system is set up.

As for all of the device drivers, see if you can find some digests of
previous emails. There are many out there to aid with installing a lot
of the functionality that is missing with a default installations.

Let me know if this helps.
