turn off the lcd panel (also backlight) - complementary note

if you want that gnome SCREENSAVER turn off the screen and the backlight (after adding dpms to config of X), you should set the following:
go to the gnome screensaver settings > advanced and enable 'Display power management'. You should let 'standby' and 'suspend' values at zero, only set the 'Off after' value. If you set also some times for standby and suspend, the screen will go blank but not the light off.
