hi everybody,
i wanted just to give you info how well the mandrake10 supports tc1000. since begining (i ve bought tc1000 in july2004) i was trying just this distro and it works fine for me. yesterday i found on some page, named
http://groundstate.ca/TC1000
a description of mandrake 10's functionality on tc1000 with as conclusion:
"You do not get a functional tablet. I used Windows whenever I wanted handwriting recognition, simple screen rotation, simple external display, or simple wireless."
i disagree with such a report, because my mandrake (with default kernel 2.6.3-7mdk) is working fine :
longrun support is working
screen rotation is instataneous with xvesa driver/ openGL support with nvidia driver
pen works very well
usb, sound (with alsa driver or oss driver),also usb-sound works fine
usb-bluetooth --> mobile phone -->gprs,internet works fine
wifi card is working since 1 hour now ;) (it was a question of 3 hours "only" but i have never before used wireless with linux)
side keys - only question of settings xkb or like this, but i find it messy and i do not need them anyway
battery level monitor - fine in gnome and in icewm even better (shows time to go)
and yesterday i upgraded also memory to 733mb, so i can tell that for example
apacer pc133 CL3 memory (cl3 is timing, but it is classic apacer mem)
is working ok with tc1000 ....(there was some buzz about which brands of memory are compatible)
i didnt try the external monitor yet, and as noted elsewhere the backlight of the screen does not shut when trying to turn off screen. but this tablet is VERY usable with mandrake 10 i think. anyway, in monday i will get a bigger and quicker hdd, so i will try to install gentoo and do some performance tuning, like ramdisk ...
sooner or later i will add some instructions to my homepage. for the wireless i can do it even now, bcause i have it in mind and it can be useful for somebody.
my homepage is
s.ics.upjs.sk/~pacay/
the linux section is in english.
every user of tc1000, have a nice day :)
