I'm trying out Tomasz's Gentoo instructions
(http://staff.xiaoka.com/smoku/stuff/TC1000/gentoo-on-tc1000.html) and am
stuck on getting wireless to work. I did check dmesg to see if it complains
about missing firmware, and it does:
eth1: firmware atmel_at76c506.bin is missing, cannot start
How can I fix this?
I followed the HOWTO steps, adding atmel_pci
to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6, and then I downloaded and installed
the atmel-firmware-1.0.tar.gz file, and added the /sys mount to /etc/fstab
for hotplug as described in the README. Here's the line in /etc/fstab:
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
Since the tarball includes multiple atmel images, the README says to specify
which one to use with the "firmware" parameter for the module, but where/how
do I specify this? Or if this isn't the problem, are there other things to
try or diagnose?
Note to others trying this: If you have the docking station, the Gentoo
2004.1 CD would not detect the eth0 (e100) network card automatically, but
the 2004.2 CD does. Also, after several hours of downloading and compiling,
the screen may go blank and not be revived by mouse or keyboard activity (I'm
using the USB plugs on the docking station). However, momentarily undocking
and redocking the tablet will allow keyboard presses to re-display the screen
contents.
