RE: Kernel 2.6

Connection refused when attempting to contact download.fedora.redhat.com.

I prefer Mandrake because it has better support for add-ons such as PLF files for playing DVD's. I tried SuSe on an Athlon 64 since it supports 64 bit processors out of the box, but SuSe has gone corporate and crippled much of their software in case someone should ever want to excercise copyright in the future rather than adhering to fair use standards. I ended up configuring the 64bit processor with a 32bit edition of Mandrake to be able to copy DVD's as well as play them. I have never used Fedora, but have used RedHat 9. The configuration options for installing software after initial configuration were a bit restrictive. I have tried Debian before on a PIII. That did not go well at all. I never could get the xServer configured properly.

I have been successful at building my own kernel to enable Win4Lin support in 2.6.3, so I feel confident that I have a general working knowledge of getting things running. Things should just not take months or even weeks to complete. They should take hours or maybe a couple of days. All very frustrating.
