I think this is unfixable but you can use framebuffer instead of text
mode and there'll be no flikering.
I usually modprobe vga16fb early in an init script to be in 640x480x4
vga which seem to be as fast as text mode. I also tried
puting vga=769 as a kernel boot parameter to enter 640x480x8 vesa
console and it work at stop flickering too but I didn't use it
long enough to get feeling about it performance.
