Okay, I just installed acpid, which looks useful. Thanks.

However, there's something I'm still not understanding here. With
respect to the kernel, I'm running 2.4.21, which is the latest stable
kernel, plus acpi-20030619, which is the most recent ACPI patch against
2.4.21. Should I be running a development kernel instead?

When I issue 'echo 0 > /proc/acpi/sleep' manually after my tablet wakes
up, I still don't get the side keys back (e.g., pressing the jog dial no
longer functions as Enter). Do you not also have this problem?

Yes, I'd like to do that too, but I use the jog dial for reading in
slate mode: up = PageUp, down = PageDown, and I've remapped Enter to be
the Back button in Konqueror. Once I put it to sleep I can't use the
rocker switch any more until I've rebooted. :-(
