xstroke no docked button?

Hey all -
Who's got xstroke working (on a debian system, preferably)? What window
manager are you running? Once I get past the segfault on startup (change
out the alphabet file) and the need to run as root (to write log files)
I'm stuck without a docked button to turn recognition on and off. I
tried metacity and matchbox window managers.
