Booting withouth serial cable

Hi,

I'm still trying to get linux to work on my Yakumo 300 Delta GPS.
Should I get it to work without a serial cable? Cause it seems that it
just hangs.

I tried editing the linuxrc script in the initrd provided at the
project page. After the modules are loaded, but before it tries to
mount the root filesystem, I added the following commands (I created
the /mnt/dos dir):

modprobe vfat
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
touch /mnt/dos/newfile
umount /mnt/dos

But no file is created on the SD card. That is what /dev/hda1 points
to right? The fat partition of the SD card?

After the penguin gets his red eyes, the screen becomes dark, one of
the two leds blinks a couple of times, and then nothing...

Is it waiting for something? Or does it just not work?

Greetz,
JeDi
