There are no special need to bring up Rosetta. It is designed for a
linux handheld with arm processor but it also works fine on a normal X86
PC. You will need any Linux Kernel with XFree > 4.x.x
Rosetta (better: the rosetta trainer [the training program to add your
own strokes]) is based on GPE, GTK and XLib. So you can use nearly every
Linux distribution to test it. But you will need the "libgpewidget" from
the gpe project (http://gpe.handhelds.org). Rosetta itself will only
need XLib.
Try to get the rosetta source from CVS and also the GPE Source from CVS.
First compile and install libgpewidget from the GPE Sourcetree (you
don't have to compile the whole GPE sourcetree) and then compile
rosetta. Both are setup to crosscompile as default, so you will have to
edit the Makefiles (set CROSSCOMPILE to NO)

An ordinary Mouse is not a realy good input device. First you won't be
acurate enough and second you will be too slow. You could give it a try,
but I would suggest to use a pen / artpad / touchscreen or something
like this.
If you use Rosetta on your desktop you could edit the rosetta.h file to
achive a larger input window. The actual one is designed to run on a PDA
display (only 240 pixel width).

You should use the rosetta trainer to train your own characters to
rosetta. By default it is configured to my own style of writing.
If you want to use a different character set than the german one, you
should first edit /etc/rosetta.conf
Hope you will have success. If I need some help, let me know.

Ole Reinhardt
