Ah, yes. This is almost certainly one of the applets, probably the
NetworkSettings2 applet. Disable the applets in the build configuration and
this problem should go away. (I should really get around to fixing this,
sorry.) Note that you should really build the latest version (1.2.3) or from
CVS rather than 1.2.0 which is quite old now.

Opieplayer is probably scanning your entire hard drive looking for media
files, and does not respond while it is doing so. This usually works fine on
a handheld because the filesystem is usually not that large, but on a desktop
this can take a long time. Opie-MediaPlayer2 is a little better at this, but
really it's something that needs to be worked on.
