Ok, what's the excuse now? :-)

Subject: [iPAQ] ogg123 for Familiar...

So I've got something ready for use by other people :-)
I've got a collection of 5 packages on my website (yes, I'll think about
unstable when I know they work for someone but me, and when I've cleared up
a couple of little issues). They are:
ogglibs: The ogg libraries (libogg, libvorbis, libvorbisfile, libao)
with integer maths and OSS support.
libcurl: The curl HTTP/FTP/other engine.
curl: The curl binary, linked against the above.
ogg123: A 'standard' ogg123 - requires both library packages, can play
local files and streams.
ogg123-local: A cut-down version of ogg123, which doesn't require libcurl and
is therefore much smaller, but which can only play files, not
streams.
If you want to play streams, get ogg123 and the two library packages. If
you only want to play files get ogg123-local and the ogglibs package. If
you feel a need for curl (as far as I know, it's like a more complex version
of wget - doesn't interest me), grab that and libcurl.
All the credit for this should go to Nicolas Pitre for integerising the
vorbis codec. All I've done is a couple of code tweaks, as suggested by
Nicolas and Philip Blundell, and packaged up the result.
Please try these out and let me know how you get on. If there are codec
problems, I'm probably not going to be able to help, but I'm willing to take
first responsibility for any problems :-) I'd also appreciate any comments
on my package splitting - I've tried to give maximum flexibility, but it
it's too much, that's okay. Anyone interested in statically-linked ogg123
to get rid of the libraries? I'm not, but someone might.
It might be worth someone (who knows Python better than me) looking at the
pyogg stuff - it could easily be a killer combination IMHO.
One other thing - a quick plug for http://support.bbc.co.uk/ogg/ - the BBC
have been running trials of Ogg stuff for a while, but their experimental
funding is apparently coming to an end, so it's going to go away soon.
Finding that the have live ogg streams was what prompted me to finish this,
after I started a couple of weeks ago and failed, so if you're interested in
getting proper Ogg support from the BBC (particularly if you're in the UK,
I'd guess), let them know how you feel about their excellent programming
being available in Ogg format. I use it to listen to 6 Music on my iPAQ
using a wireless LAN card, and it's really good, particularly through
headphones - better than the 'stream' over digital satellite, in my opinion.
Cheers
Richard
