RE: ANNOUNCE: busybox based jffs2 image for testing

This is a fantastic setup, using busybox saves a lot of great space.
Ash helps too.

I also had to modify some things:
- reinstalled some packages (filemanager, and I believe system info?)
because they didn't show up in the opie screen.
- created a couple CF mount/unmount scripts because I don't know how to
get hotplug to do that for me. The CF partition showed up in
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1.
- And more of the usual stuff mentioned below.

Regardless of using busybox or the regular familiar base, I never
managed to get the stowaway keyboard working. The setup is very
confusing for me. Permanently messing around with my params linuxargs
setting in the boot loader is a very touchy task, that I don't fully
understand. There are some more complexities to make it all work, like
which modules to load, how to load them, what scripts to modify,
creating buttons so I can switch init levels in opie (current accepted
method of switching between keyboard and regular serial). Could we
create a Qt input method that initializes/manages the stowaway keyboard
and assorted modules and getty programs for us? Maybe enhance the
kernel so it serial IO can be overridden by a user's program?

Finally.. does anyone know what we can sync the handheld contacts
datebook and todo lists with? Does qtopia desktop work for you guys? I
keep hearing that there's something in the works... isn't qtopia that
something?

- Aaron.

Ok, now we need a new image with the X.ramfs.tar file included. Here is
a
list of things, I had to do to get mine to work.
- flash
- zmodem over the X.ramfs.tar and rename it
- customize the /etc/init.d/usbnet file to account for my desktop
address
settings
- deleted /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key* and restarted sshd to generate new
ones
(this should be standard practice for a bootstrap image...security
reasons)
- took off your custom line in ipkg.conf and added the official opie
feed
- rebooted (not necessary, but it was easier than restarting everything)

Other things I did to get it usable:
- installed ext2 and ext3 support for my CF card
- made PCMCIA-CS mount my CF card on insertion
- reinstalled tinylogin and busybox (since their presence is not known
to the
ipkg system)
- installed a bunch of packages via qipkg (some of which did not
install, this
is due to the qipkg/ipkg c-version incompatibilities)
- dang, ssh still is buggy in the familiar feed, but a symlink fixes
that

I love the smallness of ash with the features of bash...kudos to you.

For some reason, I could not get my flash card to mount. The modules
would
install, but the device under /dev never showed up.

Keep up the good work.
