hi --
the last step in building opie (at the wiki SourceCode page) is
to run mkipks, which results in a whole slew of .ipk files. i
presume these are installer files of some sort, probably useful
with ipkg?
not being a debian, or zaurus, or anything but a straight-laced redhat
and rpm user, i don't know much if anything about ipkg or ipk files.
is this a handheld-specific thing? is it "required" to use this format
in order to keep an opie installation happy? my application is to
put opie on top of linux on my tuxscreen. (i'm currently running
some version of the tux buildroot-tux kernel and fs on my boot flash,
but it pivot-roots to an untar of a familiar distribution on a pcmcia
card, which i can load up via a cardslot on my desktop machine.)
since this isn't a typical pda setup, i have a lot more flexibilty in
terms of how stuff gets on and off my filesystems.
so i guess my question is, how much do i need to use ipkg and/or mkipks?
(i see there's a "-rpm" option to mkipks as well -- should i be using
that?)
thanks for any "getting started" pointers you can offer...
paul
