Familiar/X and Familiar/Opie would be the right term. Cause both (X and Opie )
base on the familiar distribution at least on iPAQs.

Yes multiuser is a key feature for business and what you described. I'm sorry
but the basic implementation is out of scope of opie. It's a task the
familiar distribution needs to care of.

I guess it wouldn't be a problem to write something like kdm, xdm, gdm for
Opie.

A company don't want to configure 100 devices with all possible users. They
want to have a way to update all pdas over wireless lan and want
authentication across the whole network. I don't know in which ways familiar
already supports it but it shouldn't be too hard.

Instead of doing /etc/init.d/qpe start from initscripts a dm should be started
which then runs qpe. But then there is still the problem with syncing.
Currently qpe the launcher binds to ports 4242, 4243. When not shutdown
correctly these ports are blocked and the user is unable to sync
