This is a hardware problem that exists for all models in the h5000
series. And Opie has no current way of dealing with it but to be
aggressive about shutting down. Unfortunately, the platform sucks a lot
of juice even when it is suspended to RAM. So even having failsafe code
built in won't help. Your best bet is to try and see if the 2.6 kernel
port has improved on this at all.
