I would definitely like to be considered part of the Opie community. I've been
a contributor to the Opie project for a few years now - first I concentrated
on making small improvements to the Opie wiki, then helped out doing bug
triage. More recently I've been able to dive into the actual code, making
minor improvements all over the place as well as writing a plugin for
OpenSync for syncing PIM data with Opie. As yet very little of the code I
have put into Opie itself has really seen the light of day due to the holdup
in releasing 1.2.3 - hopefully we can get that resolved soon.

I still see a lot of potential in Opie 1.2.x - it's already in a pretty good
state, there are just a few key areas where we need to improve things (web
browsing, media playback, syncing). I think we can get a few more releases
out of it before it needs to be put out to pasture.

Moving forward, clearly something based around Qt 4 makes the most sense, but
that means an almost complete rewrite of lots of important functionality,
which is why I have been hesitant to go in that direction myself just yet
(although I know others already have). Of course I recognise that the time
will come when we have to put all of our efforts into a new branch.

Getting back to the question of community - looking over the responses to
Benjamin's question, I see that there are a few people I would have expected
to respond who haven't. Please, don't hold back - if you want to be
considered part of the Opie community, then speak up now.

Cheers,
Paul
