I'd personally go for the Zaurus if you want a nice stable supported
machine.

The OS is actually compatible using the openzaurus projects ( it's a
open source ROM based on opie). http://openzaurus.sourgeforge.net.
Opie apps are also completly compatible with the sharp zaurus's
stock version of QPE. Opie is growing rapidly, but thats not
necesarrily a good thing if having a rock solid system is what you
really need.

The iPaq is a real nice machine, and the built in microphone is
reason enough for me to get the iPaq along with more storage space
on the iPaq.
The biggest downside is that the iPaq is still a work
in progress when it comes to support. Everything works fine for me,
but I still have the occaisional problem ( right now the system
clock wont sync with the hardware clock) with both the base Linux
system and some nagging bugs in Opie ( sound doesnt seem to work).
To summarize, if you want a useful pda that you can also tweak and
dont mind bugs too much, get an iPaq. If you want to have a rock
solid PDA at the expense of some of the nifty customization features
being added to OPIE, get a Zaurus.
