Creating i18n packages

Hi folks,

This is the first time I'm participating in the development of an
open-source project, so forgive me if I ask or say something stupid in
the first days OK ?

I an iPAQ running Linux/Qtopia (and Opie for a half a month now) for a
while and despite the fact that I have some grasp in the english
language I think it'll be cool to have support for pt_BR (brasilian
portuguese), my native language, in Opie/Qtopia.

that's why I want to ask you: How do I do this ?

In the CVS tree I saw 2 types of files in i18n .qm and .ts. . qm seems
to be binary files while .ts are clear text ones with an (aparantly)
XML format so I assume the ones that need to be translated are the .ts
ones. The 1 million dolar question is how do I convert .ts in .qm ?

and of course, how do I send them to the CVS ? should i e-mail them to
someone or should I tag them directly in the CVS ?
