I have tried to fix this for a long time :-) or even find a workaround
and will try it further.

But in the meantime as a workaround for me I have disabled the repeat
feature completely. So even when the key hangs it emits no more keys. I
dont need it anyway because most of the time I use handwriting. Just
comment out the repeatTimer references in keyboard.cpp
