Summary: Opie-mediaplayer2,crash and no install
opie-mediacodecs.
Description:
I had the same problem on my ipaq as reported in the opie mailing list, so
I thought I put it in this bugthing. The mail said:
a) Couldn't "ipkg install opie-mediacodecs" even after "ipkg update".
Solution is to manually download and "ipkg install"
b) opie-mediaplayer 2 would start with 5 to 10 seconds of initialization
and spit out "out of memory" at the console.

The package problem should be fixed.
If not drop me a note.
Regarding startup time, please note that op2 is still beta works and not
optimized in any way, neither performance nor memory.
Startup and memory problems are related to libxine and this issue is
already on the top ten list.
