Summary: Special characters are wrong in desktop-fonts
Description:
When installing e.g. the opie-i18n-de, special characters like umlauts turn
to wrong glyphs like boxes. This does not happen with fonts in applications
but with translations of e.g. icon labels.

Change the Font in Apearance to Helvetica 10pt and try again

I did not have to change it - this was the font I noticed the error first
with.

set it manually again, just to be certain

Done... same error. I changed it to 8 points and then back to 10. Is it
possible that the translation files (.mo-files I think) are corrupted if it
is not a font-problem?

To be more descriptive: The error can be seen when changing the default
language to German(Deutsch) (after installing opie-18n-de) - the "Medium
Mount" icon-label changes its name to "Ger#te einbinden" with a small box
instead of the #. I am running the openzaurus3.0 snapshot of opie.
