Summary: Opie Media Player 2 always rotates a movie in
full-screen mode regardless of the original orientation
Description:
I have a Zaurus SL5500 with the Sharp 2.35 ROM (UK) and it plays mpeg1 and
divx movies fine. Any movies with a normal orientation (e.g. 320x240) work
fine and are rotated properly to completely fill the screen (and play sooo
smoooth). However any movies formatted to fit the screen without any
rotation (e.g. 240x320) are still rotated which ends up with a movie being
shrunk to fit the 240 width of the screen. Annoyingly this includes all the
high res movies from www.pocketmatrix.com. Thanks for all the great work
guys. This is a brilliant player even for a 0.1 beta :-)

which is pretts stupid to encode the video the wrong way. Since then the
videos need to be rotated in software for fullscreen play which slows it
down a lot.

I may be missing something but a 240x320 movie will show on its side when
not playing full screen. So if such movies were not rotated when played
full screen they would simply fill the screen would they not?

www.pocketmatrix.com has one of the biggest collections of divx clips I've
seen on the web but I guess the movies are done like that because they're
aimed at PocketDivX.

In any case, would it take much to add an option so you could tell it to
optimally fill the screen, so 240x320 movies were not rotated while 320x240
movies were?

From what I've seen of it rotating and scaling DivX movies so far the
Zaurus seems to be able to handle it fine.

*sigh*

rotate your pda 90 degrees to the side, then you have the natural screen
rotation
0°.
if they aim for PocketDivX its ok, just encode the movies yourself. Maybe
we will make playing them in "windowed mode" better, since then they could
be played in "0°" which will make playback in windowed mode faster.
