Summary: wirelessapplet causes a modprobe when updating
statistics if wireless card not inserted
Description:
After removing a wireless card, the periodic statistics update will cause
the kernel module autoloader to attempt to load a module for the device (in
my case, "eth0"). Since the card isn't inserted (and in addition,
/etc/modules.conf doesn't have eth0 aliased to any specific module), the
modprobe fails. When the update frequency is set to 1 second, the repeated
modprobes slow my iPAQ down too much, and I have to reboot (or reinsert the
wireless card) to regain responsiveness.

On the zaurus with OZ and latest cvs OPIE, when the card is removed, the
wireless applet is removed, so it does not do modprobe anymore. However,
there is a period of a couple of seconds where i do see the modprobe
messages, about 5-10 of them until it the applet stops.

* As onyx4 said, the problem is no longer persistent due to the new
detection code.

* As far as the user interface to allow the selection of the device to be
monitored is concerned: I think this is not necessary - the wirelessapplet
scans all network interfaces and uses the first _wireless_ interface. I
have yet to see an Opie user with more than one wireless ethernet card.
