Kernel problem

...hi there!

I wanted to recompile (again) the kernel...as done dozends of times
before...but...this time, booting fails with

VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(0,255) blabla
[...]
Kernel panic - not syncing: <SAME MSG AGAIN>

I was kinda stunned....checking kernel config, MMC/SD driver is selected as
well as reiserfs ...

Testing with "old" kernel works, so partition on SD card is accessable...

Any hints/ideas?
