i have patched the 2.4.19-rmk6-pxa1-hh3-j720 kernel posted by Kye Connect
to include:

- irda support in HP-SIR mode
i couldn't get sa1100_ir to work, so this uses the irtty module:
modprobe irtty
irattach /dev/ttySA2 -s

- j720_control module (see /proc/jornada/*) to set
contrast/brightness/look at the battery state. look at the sources to see
what LDD lines control irda, modem etc.

- a patch for hpcboot users: sets the PID to 0, and disbales the
architecture check

- suspend/resume still works like in Kye's original kernel (couldn't get
it to work in linux-2.4.19-rmk6-pxa1-hh36)

- a non-working patch to turn the display on/off with the power button,
for those booting from wince. unfortunately after the display is turned
off/on pressing a key on the keyboard causes an oops (somebody please
look at it - it's some trivial error i can't find)
