Hi,
so here it is, the first Jornada 56x images buit with OE. The Opie image
should work rather well although I've not been able to fix all software bugs
yet. The gpe image didn't boot correctly, I just get a blank X desktop after
the touchscreen calibration.
So what is the big advantage compared to the old image?
All packages are specially built for the jornada, so there are no conflicts
with other sa11x0 devices remaining.
The images come with all kernel modules, so you should be able to easily
create a network connection (Supported are: USB slave (no module required),
CF bluetooth cards (modules are already in the image) or any CF wireless
lan/cable lan cards. pcmcia-cs may even autoload the required modules if the
card is inserted. The CF slot works just fine with both the GPE and Opie
image.
If you ever run out of space you can surely remove some of the modules if they
are not needed.
the images can be found at http://handhelds.org/~chicken/oe/images
You can install additional packages through the special jornada 56x feed at
http://handhelds.org/~chicken/oe/ipk , just add it to your /etc/ipkg.conf
like "src/gz feed http://handhelds.org/~chicken/oe/ipk". You can also use a
package manager in GPE/Opie to do this.
Once the remaining bugs are solved, the images and the feed will be updated
again. It just takes about 4-5 hours to build these images even on my quite
fast 3,3 Ghz P4, so updates won't be that frequent.
Please report any bugs you encounter with both of the images to me ( I know
the GPE image doesn't boot correctly, but maybe someone wants to play with it
a bit)
so have fun.
regards,
Alex Lange
