Hello,

I'm trying to get GPE (gpe.handhelds.org) to work on the jornada 720. It
seems that the binaries from gpe work fine on the 720 with the kernel
posted by Kye Connect. I've posted a jffs2 image, and a tar archive of the
files in it on

http://acid.ch.pw.edu.pl/~sq5bpf/mylinux/j720/files/

It has the following bugs:
- no xcalibrate
- the power button doesn't work for shutting down (but apm -s does) - it
does work for waking the jornada up
- i didn't include the jornada xmodmap in it, so not all keys work
(get it from
http://acid.ch.pw.edu.pl/~sq5bpf/mylinux/linux-jornada720/jornada/xmodmap.j720
if you want to experiment)
- you may have to kill the application that prompts for settings at
initial boot.

You can interact with it via the serial port at 115200,8n1. The root
password is the familiar deafult: rootme.

This is a demo only, but i hope that it will be useful for someone.

Also as some of you may remember, there was a problem running newer
familiar binaries that had elf entry points set to a low address. I think
G Almasi solved this problem in his 820 patches - this was probably caused
by the PID register being set incorrectly - this may be useful for the
people trying to run newer handhelds.org distributions, when booting via
hpcboot.

ps. i've solved my flash board problem. hope this helps someone with
theirs:

the symptoms that i was having was: random jffs2 errors, sometimes the
kernel didn't boot, writing too much to flash corrupted it, 1 out of 5
load root commands was sucsessful. the problems went away for a moment
when the board was washed in methanol. it seems that the problems was
broken soldering of the flash (visible only under a microscope). after
resoldering it all is fine.
